WALES ~ THE LAND OF SONG
CONCERT & CD LAUNCH

Shannon will celebrate the launch of a very personal recording, Wales ~ The Land of Song, with a concert on Sunday, March 8th at 3pm with the critically acclaimed Skye Consort. In collaboration with the Ottawa Welsh Society, Shannon pays tribute to the richness of the Welsh musical culture in a concert that features the music from her new recording.

With the release of her fifth Analekta recording of Wales ~ The Land of Song, Shannon recalls her Welsh roots, the culture that gave voice to her passion for music. An immigrant to Canada, Shannon's father was a longtime member of the Ottawa Welsh Society and sang for many years with the Gwalia Singers. One of Shannon's first musical milestones came when, at the age of 15, she performed at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales. She returned to Canada with the silver cup in hand and as a proud ambassador of Welsh music!

SKYE CONSORT
Montreal-based Skye Consort is dedicated to bringing art-music aesthetic and interest to the music of different world traditions. For the pieces on the recording, arranger Seán Dagher has taken traditional Welsh folk songs and given them fresh life in contemporary arrangements, exploiting the sound of a traditionally Welsh blend of instruments: cittern, harp, violin, cello, double bass, percussion, and flute.
